Here are some tips for maintaining your dishwasher:

• If your dishes, glasses, and flatware come out with a white, milky film, this may be due to hard water. To solve this problem, place a heavy coffee cup right side up on the top rack, fill it halfway with a household lime remover such as Lime-Away, load your dishes as usual, add detergent, and start the dishwasher. The water will dilute the lime remover and remove the film buildup on your dishes while cleaning the interior of your dishwasher.
• Many dishwashers have a filter near the bottom or under the lower spray arm that needs to be cleaned every six months or so. Consult your owner's manual to find out how to remove and clean the filter. If the filter has holes in it, replace it to prevent particles from damaging the pump and motor seals.
• Over time, the small holes in the dishwasher's spray arm(s) may become clogged with debris like paper, toothpicks, and glass. To keep your dishwasher cleaning efficiently, periodically remove the spray arm and clean the holes by poking a piece of stiff wire through them. Shake the spray arm to ensure that there is no debris inside, and then scrub any mineral deposits off the spray arm with hot distilled white vinegar. When removing the cap holding the spray arm in place, be sure to turn it clockwise and not to drop the nut or washer into the motor.
