These types of washers, often referred to as "direct drives" in the industry, have been around for years and are considered by many appliance technicians to be reliable. Here are some tips for maintaining your washer:
- Replace the hot and cold water hoses every five years.
- Run a cleaning product, such as Affresh, through your washer.
- Level your washer, although sometimes stability is more important than being perfectly level.
- Use only two tablespoons of detergent. Modern detergents are designed to work with less detergent, and your washer will perform better as a result.
- If you have a front load washer, clean the rubber gasket with a soft cloth and bleach. Many odors come from this area.
- If you have a front load washer, clean the detergent dispenser with hot water to prevent clogging.
- For both top load and front load washers, leave the lid or door open when not in use. This will prevent odors and mildew from developing.
